Late winter is when planning actually happens. Orders go in, machines come back from service, and spreader chains get checked. But one question that rarely gets a straight answer before the season starts is how full to load a 2010 SLC when the ground is soft and the material is anything other than textbook pen-packed solid. Get that wrong and you are not just fighting bogging. You are fighting a spread pattern that opens up uneven before you have covered the first paddock.

Why Fill Level and Material Type Have to Be Considered Together
The 2010 SLC sits in the mid-range of the LEO 20 Series side discharge lineup, which runs from 3,700 litres up to 16,000 litres across six models. That range matters because operators sometimes treat cubic metre capacity as a loading target rather than a ceiling. It is not the same thing.

The expeller throws that unevenly. The pattern width you get in the first fifty metres of a paddock is not the pattern width you get in the last fifty. On a crop paddock or a precision application block, that inconsistency costs you the agronomic value of the spread entirely.
This is worth stating plainly: spread pattern inconsistency from overfilling is not a minor performance tweak. It undermines the whole reason for spreading in a controlled pass in the first place. The process is straightforward. Load the machine in stages: a half fill, a three-quarter fill, a full load by volume. Weigh the machine at each stage if you have access to a weighbridge, or estimate against known payload figures for your tractor and linkage. Walk the paddock you plan to spread on and assess the ground bearing before you commit to a full load. Check the spread pattern on each load by watching where material falls at the expeller discharge rather than just looking at the strip from the cab.
What you are looking for is the fill level at which the floor chain starts to labour noticeably and the spread pattern stays consistent from the beginning of the run to the end. That number changes with material density. Winter pen pack that has dried down through July and August will give you a higher achievable fill by volume than wet April flush material. Mark that number and spread it to your operator before the season starts.
The 2010 SLC comes standard with flotation tyres and a swivel hitch. Both of those features help on soft ground. The flotation tyres lower the ground contact pressure compared with a standard 425-22.5 tyre option. But flotation tyres do not compensate for carrying more weight than the ground can support. Practical Checks Before the First Soft Paddock
