Winter recipes still sit in the scale on most dairies right now. The bunker face is about to change, and if those old targets stay untouched, the first wet cut of the year will expose every stale number. Commercial mixer scales commonly hold twenty recipes, twenty products, and twenty barn or batch labels. That capacity is useful. It is also how a list goes stale. Walk the full list against the feeds you will load after the season turns. Pasture returns in KwaZulu-Natal and the higher-rainfall districts. New maize silage changes bulk density the day the fresh pit opens. Hay and straw drop out of the milking groups or move to a different pen. If a slot names an ingredient you will not touch for three months, clear it or rewrite it now.
Dead recipes left in the scroll are how someone selects the wrong batch at 05:30 with the tractor already running. Print the current list, mark keep, rewrite, or delete beside each number, and do the deletions in daylight when nobody is waiting on the mixer.

Label barns so the right spring ration is the path of least resistance. When the first cut lands, the mixer should only need loading, not rewriting.
